What is a True Friend?

Friendship requires committment. Proverbs 17:17 says A true friend is always loyal and a brother is born to help out in time of trouble. The word TRUE means genuine, faithful, loyal, that's what I call a true friend. You will find out how true a friend is, when the chips are down and you are faced with trouble.

True friendship requires more than lip service, because there is some pain, suffering, hurt, disappointment and anger involved with true friendship.

Friendships take years to develop, they don't just happen overnight. You should have some conditions and boundaries in relationshps and friendships that you are involved in because people will take advantage of your kindness and meekness, for foolishness. Most people will misuse your true friendship, because they don't understand what friendships are really all about.

When you are involved in a true friendship with someone, there is nothing hid from either party. The truth is told, even if it hurts, because there is no way that a relationship can develop, grow and mature if the truth is not told.

If you are not an honest person with yourself, then you will not be honest with anyone else. It all starts with your honesty, integrity, good morals, good conduct, and good character. These things will make you a true friend to everyone you decide to become a true friend with.
